Hi, welcome to my blog. My name is Pan Zhang.I currently live in China. I usually like to do some crafts, play the guitar, and hang out with friends. Of course I also love to play video games. I once raised a husky named Hanamaki. Many interesting stories happened between me and Hanamaki. If you want to know more, you can go to the following website to view.

The last writing-related course I took before I took 39a was Academic Writing 20c. This course mainly focuses on the use of summary, paraphrase, synthesis for academic writing. I think the most important thing I learned in this course is the complete writing process. What constitutes a paper. The second is that the teacher will comment on my article, and then ask me to revise it and then re-rate it. This made me gradually develop the habit of reading through and revising every time I finish writing. I think this is very helpful for my writing.

When writing, the biggest difficulty I feel is that I don't know how to start writing. Sometimes I can get some ideas, but when I start writing, I don't know how to start. Later, I started to try to research the topic every time I wanted to write. Especially for my sociology last semester, I was very distressed by the 5-page final paper. So I started to study my topic again and tried to expand. This allowed me to finally find a suitable entry point.

I think my greatest strength is that I can communicate well with various materials. This may be due to my many exercises in summarizing the article. Being able to grasp the main points makes it easy for me to find exercises among the various materials. This also allows me to smoothly write the content after successfully finding the entry point. It might be easier if I prepare a complete outline before writing.

The most common problem I encountered when conducting grammar tests on the connection was that I was not clear about the type of evidence given in the article. The most surprising thing for me is that I found that my basic grammar, such as punctuation, is not as bad as I think.

The grading standard of this class is more concerned with whether the student is devoted to the study than the ability of the student. If the student works hard to complete the homework, keep communicating and cooperating with the teacher. Then you will get points that match your efforts.

“Develop habits for engaged reading”

In the past two weeks, I focused on the reading aspect of the course objectives.

In the past two weeks in this course, I have understood and reflected on the term social construction. This term will be the key to connecting the various materials when writing this semester.

After that, I watched Jean Kilbourne's speech Killing Us Softly 4 and reflected on it. After understanding the meaning of social construction, I can understand what this speech wants to express. Before this, there have been discussions on the topic of designing female characters to be too beautiful. At the time, I couldn't understand why it would be wrong to make the character good-looking. And these two speeches made me realize that the real problem lies in making the characters good-looking and not just about the ability of art, it also affects the society's definition of beauty. I found it difficult to find the main point while watching the speech. Because speeches do not have obvious paragraph divisions and subtitles like articles. So I tried to divide by the themes she talked about, and then combined similar themes to summarize.

Then we created our own blog. This is the first time I have come into contact with this kind of thing so I feel very strenuous. If someone finds an error on the page while reading my blog, please let me know. We use the blog as a weekly review. Reflect on what you have learned this week. The reflection on myself in the first week of the blog helped me understand the course outline better. At the beginning, I was puzzled about the development of reading habits in the syllabus. Because we made a lot of reading contacts during academic writing. When reading, it is usually to read through the full text, list the outline of the article, and then summarize. It wasn't until I did Close Reading Practice: Looking into the Magic Mirror, Haas and Trapdeo that I learned that the real reading skills are not just summarizing the full text.

Reading is what really requires a lot of thinking and a clear grasp of the key points. Compared with speeches, although the article can quickly distinguish several major points, it is difficult to find the small points. For example, I can quickly find the changes in the two periods of Disney in Looking into the Magic Mirror, but the key points of what Frozen brings need to be considered in reading. And when the speech is combined with the pictures, I can quickly understand the meaning she wants to express when the focus changes. After that, we integrated the resources of the two articles and added our own opinions. I think this is to provide basic ideas and resources for future writing.
